The future of Podcasting and Web 2.0

Podcasting and Web 2.0 are both integral to society today. Both have become so popular and will continue to grow and become more popular in the future. People will become more dependant on Web 2.0 and Podcasting in the future, as both will continue to grow and become “normalized” in the future.
To begin, let us take a look at podcasting and where it could potentially be heading. In 2005, 1 million internet users per week would download a podcast. By 2010, it is predicted that 18 million internet users per week will download a podcast. (http://www.bridgeratings.com/Images/The%20Future%20of%20Podcasting%20Slides_files/frame.htm)
To me, this seems reasonably correct because almost every major internet site has podcasts that are available to stream and download. The reason for this is because of the rapid change of technology and the emergence of the mp3 formatted file. Podcasting is the future of digital audio. For instance, some professors at University of Toronto will podcast their lectures so that students can access them on the internet. This is an example of how popular podcasting has become. We see it everywhere. Experts predict in the near future that video and audio files will be pushed through the RSS feed. (http://www.podcastblaster.com/podcasting-the-future.html) These experts also predict that in the future, companies will develop new products to make podcasting more accessible to the public. So we can see that in the future, podcasting will continue to grow and become more accessible to the public. It will continue to grow as it will become more and more popular in the future.
In regards to the future of Web 2.0, software will continue to be more advanced and capable for hosting multimedia content. According to Bill Gates, "Every year we just move to more of a digital environment. We take away the older approaches." (http://arstechnica.com/journals/microsoft.ars/2007/1/28/6781) Web 2.0 and Podcasting almost go hand in hand. As Web 2.0 continues to grow, so does the development of podcasting. As Bill Gates said, the internet is moving to more of a digital environment and we can expect Web 2.0 to be more digitalized then ever in the future. Things such as online storage devices and personal media will continue to get better in the future. We will be able to use our computer as a television, as there may almost be no existence for televisions in the future. Gates also says that in 5 years, we will look back and laugh at what we had now because Web 2.0 will continue to grow and emerge as time goes on.

A Critical Review of www.firstshowing.net

www.firstshowing.net is an entertainment blog that deals with celebrities and the top stories of news in the entertainment sector. This is a great website that is appealing and interesting to the reader. In this review, we will take a look what it is exactly that makes this website so good.

Firstshowing.net has nice features on the page that allow the internet user to easily access all of the information on the entire website. They have all of the top related stories in a scrolled view format, listed as most recent information from top to bottom. With the scroll down format, the internet user can easily look for the information that he or she would like to access. A search bar is located at the top right of the page for the internet user to search the entire website with keywords. Also, there are 20 of the most recent stories on the page, with a picture, text, and introduction of what each story pertains to. On the bottom right of each introduction, there is a link that allows the user to continue reading. This is convenient for the reader because they basically only have to look at the main page to see what they are looking for. There is also a link bar located at the top of the page for the users to click and access all of the features of the website. The user can also subscribe to an RSS feed which will let the user know when updated content such as blog entries, pod casts and news headlines are published.

This blog website addresses several issues. It gives the reader the latest news in entertainment, from movies to top stories, breaking news and information on celebrities, this site will provide the reader with all the information he/she needs to know. The site does a good job with its layouts, easy to read font and easy to see pictures. You cannot miss the big picture and text underneath each picture, which will give the reader a clear understanding of what they are about to read. Features such as reviews, trailers, forum, and pod casts are on the link bar for the internet user to access. The trailers and pod casts are essential to this website because nowadays internet users want to watch movies and clips, as opposed to reading all the time. So these two features are great for the website and enhance the internet user’s experience when looking through this site. Not only this, but right below the text is the introduction, or the first part of the blog, so the reader can get a general idea of what is being discussed in the blog. With the latest trailers, latest interviews, and upcoming releases links, the blog website addresses a variety of issues. It keeps the reader up to date on all the entertainment news. The RSS feed is another essential tool to this website because it notifies the users of when something new has been published onto the website. So even though an internet user may not keep checking the website for updates, the RSS feature notifies the user of updates on the website which will keep the user coming back to the website. This blog seeks to address the importance of updating their internet users on the latest news in the entertainment world. This blog is very good because it makes important and useful contributions to the readers, allowing the reader to easily access valuable information all over the website. What makes this blog useful, and in general a well thought out and well done website is the fact that there are so many useful features, but that the page is not cluttered with information. The layout of the blog site is perfect, because there is a lot of information for the reader to go through but at the same time the website doesn’t look too “busy” or cluttered. There are plenty of features that will keep the internet users happy and coming back for more. The trailer link (http://www.firstshowing.net/category/trailers/) is perfect because nowadays we like to watch movies and clips online.

What makes a blog useful and helpful is not only the information on the blog, but the way the information on the blog is portrayed. While firstshowing.net has a lot of valuable information, what makes this site such a good blog is the way the information is given. The Layout is perfect, and easily accessible for all the viewers and internet users. This site is very easy to look at, and easy to find what you are looking for. This is what makes a great blog, and www.firshowing.net is indeed a great blog.

What is the biggest issue facing blogging, citizenship and the future of media?

The biggest issue with regards to blogging, citizenship and the future of media is the credibility of the blogs that are posted all over the internet. With the advancement in today’s media, anybody is now capable of posting their own blog on the internet. The big issue with this is the credibility of the blog, along with the legal issues that pertain to a blog. People who write blogs can express their own opinions, beliefs, and views on anything. The problem with this is that some views of the blogger’s may be negative and defamatory towards others. Also, the content expressed in the blog must be from the owner. Owners of the blog cannot steal content and use it as their own. This is another big issue because information is sometimes taken by others from other sources and these other sources are not credited, therefore the content is being stolen. With the vast advancements in the internet, there are no limits to the future of the media in regards to blogging.

Anybody nowadays can easily write their own blog, so the internet users must be wise with their actions, and what they say in their blogs because there are a lot of things that are said on the internet that are not credible. If an internet user would like to start his or her own blog, they must follow the set of rules for blogging. These rules can be found here. (http://www.avivadirectory.com/blogger-law/) People must follow all of these rules in order to stay away from trouble and to make sure that the blog they write follows the rules. If bloggers do not follow the rules for blogging, they can get into serious trouble.

Although people can say what is on their mind when writing blogs, people must try and be kind in expressing their opinion and belief and not be so negative towards others. Negativity in regards to blogs are also another big problem and people need to stop being so negative with their opinions and beliefs towards others.

In the future, there will still be a lot of problems with regards to blogging, citizenship and online information that internet users receive. The internet user must be smart enough to know what sources are credible and what things that are said on the internet are true.
